Maintaining a proper hygiene is the aspect of a healthy environment in Public hospitals.

Maintaining a proper hygiene is the aspect of a healthy environment in Public hospitals. Nowadays, as we go to Public Hospitals especially in ward areas section, we cannot observe that a proper hygiene is present. It is very rare to see a very clean, free from bad odor, well ventilated room in public

hospital areas. What is the main factor that makes these public hospitals not an ideal place to be confined with? Well, in fact if you are going to ask the public, they would say maintaining hygiene. That’s the first thing that would pop out to our minds when we are ask why these hospitals smell bad or not clean. Yes, indeed, hygiene is a big factor in these hospitals. The public should implement or maintain the self-care activities. What are these activities? These activities are always present in our daily lives and it is part of our daily routine in our lives. Proper hand washing, bathing daily, cutting nails, brushing teeth are just one the examples of these activities. It is important to maintain these because it serves as a foundation on how to maintain cleanliness in our surroundings. If you clean yourself, always clean your area or surrounding too just like the way you maintain cleanliness within you because that’s the only way on how to gain a healthy environment. A well-groomed person plus a clean surrounding would equate to a Healthy environment.
But now, maintaining hygiene in public areas is very rare to the people. That’s the main reason why public hospitals are not considered to be a healthy environment for the ill patients because lacking of hygiene would only tend to slow down the recovery rate of most patients. It’s very common to us to know that hospitals should be clean, well ventilated, free from viral bacteria that can cause epidemic diseases to all the patients in hospitals. As stated by Florence Nightingale, a well known nursing theorist, “A healthy environment of the patient would assist in him or her recovery”. But in the cases of these public hospitals, fast recovery of patients seems not possible.
There is this time that I had a chance to go to these public type hospitals. I wandered there looking for the ward area. As I observed, most of the clients in these hospitals, they rely much on the public health workers regarding their hygiene. The significant others of the patients constitute to the big problems in attaining a healthy environment. Why? Their responsibility to their sick family members like doing a basic hygiene, maintain proper sanitation in their waste or helping the ill member to be well groomed, instead of doing that they passed it to the public nurses. Due to the scarceness of the nurses in public hospitals, they cannot attend all the patients to do some cleaning stuff on their body for the promotion of their health. The family of the ill patients, they just watched and waited for their loved ones to be discharged. But what happen is that they are not helping the patients to promote a faster recovery rate. I observed also that the main reason why ward areas are crowded is due to the significant of others of the patients. For one patient, there were four or more people attending the ill ones.

Due to the over populated in hospitals, proper ventilation, having a big space area in order to circulate fresh air in the room lacks. And also too much people in the room or areas in hospitals would just make the patients irritated. Crowd of people in hospitals contribute much to the bad hygiene in hospitals.
Maintaining a proper hygiene in public areas is very easy as long we implement our self-care activities to our self and to our surroundings. Doing these, we can help the patients or our family sick members to attain a faster recovery rate. Because hygiene is the only cause that would trigger a disease or would make diseases away! Having a healthy environment makes you a healthier one too.

 “Public Hospital”

This article was made to clear our fret and query about Public Hospital. How does an individual think about public hospital? And how can we help to promote a healthy public hospital?

A hospital is the center of modern medicine. Traditionally, Nursing could be said to have its roots in the “HOME”. But as Technologies change, Nursing education changes and Nurses require increasing education to provide effective and safe nursing practice.

A Public hospital is a hospital which is shown by an argument for everyone and it receive government funding. It is not created for poor people- It is created for everyone. But WHY? Why every time public hospital is mention, people do have a lot of reactions, like: Yuck! Public Hospital! Nakakadiri ang Public Hospital! And etc. - Filipino Attitudes. This is because public hospitals are known for being overcrowded and dirty. They do have facilities but they sometimes may not have enough facilities for some medical emergency. Even there services are questionable and they are not as equipped as private hospital.

According to Jpma. Org.pk The reason for problems, related to public hospital, was six. Cut of six reasons, third reason “Lack of facilities and security of doctors” was marked true by 80% of doctors. Other reasons in a range of 30% to 60% are shown below

         Problems related to hospital:
-Lack of instructions for the patients to locate laboratory, opd’s wards in a hospital- 40%
- Insufficient lab facilities including working equipment in comparison to number of beds- 44%
-Lack of facilities and security of doctors- 80%
-Lack of supervision of doctors and staff members by higher authorities- 26%
-Late admission of patients in a ward or hospital due to limited number of beds-28%
- Inadequate measures for sterilization to prevent hospital acquired infection-58%

       Problems due to patients:
-Inferiority complex in patients due to poverty make them feel that they are not treated properly- 52%
-Non-compliance by the patient and family to follow Doctor’s advice- 56%
-Illiteracy and poverty of patients are factors that create problems for them in government hospital- 80%

These are some causes of major problems you encountered in public hospital.
Though a vast variety of problems we considered, two most significant drew full attention.

The third query of the questionnaire which was regarding facilities and security of doctor was marked true by almost 80%. This should be of course, be a main sector of concern for the higher authorities as no one can do their best until they feel adequately secured. Why? Why public hospitals don’t have enough facilities that in fact they have funds which is given by the government. Is it because of corruption or funds given by the government is not enough?

As a novice, I think this is because of corruption. Mercy! Money is evil! Money is powerful! Everyone can be evil if there is money but who would start to have change and who would start everything to be change?

We, the present generation! We need to start everything. We need to change everything. As Doctor Jose Rizal once said “Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng Bayan”

The last query dealing with illiteracy and poverty of patients gave a positive response by 80% doctors. Reflects that patient’s behavior with the doctors and to disregard doctor’s advice. Patients usually don’t observe the follow up probably owing to overload in government hospital. Sometimes after initial response and feeling better they ignore doctor’s advice's  So measures should definitely be taken to improve the understanding, the importance of follow ups and the doctor’s advice.

In total, the human and Environment have this mutual “openness”. The environment needs us and we also need the environment. But as people we are the one who should initiate to take care of environment so that we can have healthy environment and lifestyle. Everyone can do Nursing.Everyone is capable to be a nurse even if you are not professionally. But I’m encouraging everyone to be educated about Nursing.

Here some tips to have a healthy public hospital:

-We should understand the principles of cleaning and disinfecting environmental surfaces especially the members of the hospital.
- Infection transmission risk assessment to guide level of cleaning
-Cleaning practices for different types of care areas, including specialized cleaning assistant organism
- A public hospital should have cleaning strategies for spills of blood and body substances.
-They should also have cleaning practices for non critical equipment and furnishing
-Proper ladling of laundry and bedding
-They should have proper management of contaminated wash
-Staff, members, nurses, doctors and even the client, consumer or patient should have cleaning practices during and following completion of constructions projects.

I Hope each and everyone of us would contribute to take care of our environment. As citizens of the world, each of us is responsible for the health of our environment. Our choices and our actions contribute to the well being and deterioration of the environment. Anyone and everyone can participate in making our environment a safer, less harmful place.

Public Hospital's Sanitation: A Major Problem

A public hospital or government hospital is a hospital which is owned by a government and receives funding from them.  The main goal and core dimension of quality in a public hospital is to promote health along with the patient’s safety and the hospital’s clinical effectiveness. In order to achieve such goals for the patient and the institute, we should take a look on the basic yet foundation of giving care; the Environment’s Sanitation.

When we take a look at the greater idea in terms of building a certain foundation, then it speaks for its importance. It is because when we elaborate a so-called foundation, a failed one would interpret succeeding failures. What I am trying to pinpoint is that if we set a goal of a hundred percent assurance of a certain person’s wellness, then we must be sure enough without doubt the environment is in its healthy status.

A public hospital in Egypt

Don’t you think that with such a very filthy and uncleaned hospital would be a perfect place for a person who is very ill and desires to recover? Would you risk staying in this kind of hospital which cannot even maintain their proper sanitation? Well, if I am to ask by this, I will surely answer a big NO!  Why would I choose to stay in a hospital that cannot even maintain cleanliness. How can I trust myself to an institution that cannot provide the basic need for my recovery.

A public hospital in India

Improper waste disposal of public hospitals are also a dilemma they face. This infectious hospital waste are very dangerous to the health of the patients and the people in that hospital. The hospital should always sustain in their minds the proper waste disposal. Preserving such attitude of proper disposal may lessen the microorganisms and infectious substances to spread and cause disease to other people.

As what Florence Nightingale has stated in her Environmental Theory, “Patients should be put in their best condition in order for nature to act upon them.” For the patients to be able to attain a faster recovery and maintain a healthy status as what our hospitals are promoting, they must be able to alter and uphold and sustain a safer and healthy environment and keep a proper sanitation of the hospital.

At the end of the day, all we can blame with these problems that our public hospitals are facing, are the improper management of the people behind building our government hospitals. These problems are all rooted to the discipline of the society and governance of the government. But with proper ways, solutions, and attitude, we can overcome these dilemmas that our public hospital and community is facing.

Public Hospitals: Healthy?! or Unhealthy?!

What's the real image of our today's public hospitals? Is it great or somewhat a risk? We must all ask ourselves about the undeniable standings and status of the different public hospitals that are continuously arising and for those that are about to be built. I'am encouraging everyone to be awaken and not be blind because no one can stop me from expressing the truth that it's image is not in proper or shall I say in what they so-called the best condition. My seeking voice must be heard that we need clean environment for our different public hospitals because I wholeheartedly speak for the whole human race.Others may not have enough awareness that being hospitalized is just centered on seeking care and assistance from our caring nurses, doctors, and other family members because the unrealized thing maybe is that an illness may not be cured for it was worsened by the surrounding environment.

I may say that this confidence within me is flourishing to spread awareness in regards with the aforesaid subject because honestly,I don't just pity myself, for the main point is that I sincerely pity the entire humanity that has concerns about it and especially the future generations to come.According to the respected nursing theorist ,Florence Nightingale in regards with her environmental theory, environment indeed is a big stimulus that affects a person's conditioned that is why it must be cleaned well, sanitized properly,  ventilated ,etc. These may be interpreted as small variables by others but the real thing is that these small things build the basic foundation of a comfortable condition that would surely lead to a certain person's wanted continuous
healthy well being for the betterment.

Take a look at this simple sample of picture and widen your realizations of what's the unwanted image of a certain dirty hospital:

See?It is really disappointing! No wonder that it really worsens a patient's condition. That is why we must refer such things to the go the government because I do strongly believe so that we have the so-called enough budget to improve and develop everything to be developed. I still hold on to the possibility.
